8 Month Baby Update | Nolan

Hello hello!

So I can’t really believe it, but Nolan is 9 months old!! He turned 9 months on the 17th, so I wanted to share an update from his 8th month – this will be our first update and I really wish I had documented his first 7 months, too. But regardless… I’m glad to be posting this one!

Milestones: I feel like throughout this month he has really started to show a lot of improvement in his development. He seems to be learning so quickly now and picking up on new things we show him within the first couple of tries! His personality is really starting to show, too. He is such an explorer, super happy, and very active. With that being said, he has definitely picked up on crawling.. very fast.. everywhere he wants to go. He had been army crawling for awhile, but finally learned how to crawl on all fours! He also pulls up on the furniture and cruises around the room. He is definitely on the verge of walking and has taken a step or two here and there! He can also stand by himself for short periods. It’s so amazing to see how much he has learned since he was born.

This month he has also learned to clap and when a song he likes will comes on, he dances and claps along. He loves music! He will stop in his tracks if music starts playing somewhere.  Aaaand he has been working on waving. He doesn’t quite have that down yet, but it’s adorable when he actually does it.

As for talking, he can say “dada” and “mama” really well. He also says t, c, b, and f sounds. He loves squealing and gets super excited at times.

We’ve started working on baby sign language this month, too. Some of the signs I have shown him are milk, eat, mom, dad, please, and more. The only sign he tries to do is “more” which he actually just smooshes his hands together, but it’s cute that he is trying!

Oh! He also learned how to give kisses this month! It is seriously the most adorable thing I’ve ever seen. I melt every single time.

Size: He is 23 pounds and is 29 inches tall.

Health: This month has not been so good for our little guy. It seems he was sick back to back all month long! He attends daycare, so unfortunately is exposed to a lot of illness. However, he seems to recover like an all star and never seems bothered by being sick. This month he had what I would say was a common cold, then had a respiratory virus, then and ear and sinus infection, then a rash!! It was just not cool!

Sleep: He is a sleep champion! He’s been a very good sleeper ever since he was very little. He sleeps from around 7pm to 5:30am and takes two to three naps per day. His naps range from 30 mintues to 2 hours.

Social: Nolan absolutely loves people. He is the most friendly baby, I swear. So far there hasn’t been a single person he’s met that he didn’t like. It’s incredible! Right now he goes to daycare 3 days per week, so he gets to interact with other babies and his teachers there. They say he does wonderfully there and I would have a hard time believing otherwise.

Eating: I would say this is probably one of Nolan’s favorite things to do! He loves to eat and he definitely has some favorite foods. His top three are bananas, sweet potatoes, and blueberries. Recently he has been liking oatmeal with applesauce and cinnamon mixed in and banana pancakes. I’ve been struggling to get him to eat meats at this point, but I’m not too concerned about that. He also doesn’t seem to like corn or peas. I continue to offer him foods he doesn’t like at first in hopes he will eventually take a liking to them.

While we practice a lot of baby led weaning, I do give him puree food sometimes now too. I didn’t do any puree’s at first until he got the hang of  BLW, but I enjoy the variety of flavors that can be offered with the puree pouches. I tend to lean toward Gerber and Plum Organics for our food pouches. We have worked up to 3 meals per day, but at lunch time it’s usually more of a snack type of meal.

He is still nursing, too and will have around 5 milk feedings per day. I’m so glad I was able to nurse because it has saved us soooo much money.

Loves: He loves pulling himself up to standing and walking around the furniture, listening to his dad play guitar and trying to play it himself, books, swimming in the pool and bath time, our dog – he squeals with excitement anytime he sees the dog, opening and closing doors, and crawling into other rooms seem to be a few of his favorites.

Baby Gear Favorites: Stokke Tripp Trapp High Chair. We’ve been using it for awhile and there are so many things I love about it! My favorite thing is how it allows him to sit right up to the table and actually use the table as his tray. You can order a tray for it if you prefer, but we just use our table. I also love the baby set and cushion you can order with it as well. It allows the chair to have a higher back and a wrap around seat to keep him more secure in the chair. We love it! Another favorite is our Infantino Cart Cover. I have used this ever since Nolan was able to sit up on his own. We use it for shopping carts and high chairs at restaurants. I love using it for many reasons including keeping him cozy, covering any yucky germs that may be lingering behind, and it’s especially nice for cold shopping carts!

Well, that’s it for now! It was a busy month for our little guy! What were some of your babies milestones at 8 months?

See ya later!

Popping over from the Show Your Blog Love group as well to say that Nolan is super cute! I love reading these baby updates from other bloggers. I don’t have any kids yet, so it’s nice to see all the good (and sometimes not so good) stuff that could be in my future!
